KENYA - KIANGUNDO (WASHED)

Kiangundo Washing Station sits on the fertile slopes of Mt. Kenya, where around 800 smallholder farmers deliver coffee grown in rich red volcanic soil. Many travel by foot, bicycle, or motorcycle from nearby farms, some no larger than half a hectare. The station is managed by Jackson Mahu Kooro, who first joined Kiangundo in 1999 and spent 17 years as its machine operator before becoming factory manager in 2022. Just beyond the coffee farms lies the Ragati Conservancy, an 8,000-hectare protected wilderness home to elephants, buffalo, and leopards. Together, this unique landscape and strong cooperative spirit help shape some of Kenya's most celebrated coffees.
