RWANDA - MICHEL DUSENGIMANA (WASHED)

Tended across three small hillside plots near Nkara, Michel Dusengimana’s coffee grows in cool air and pale, mineral rich soils that help the cherries ripen with clarity and concentration. Michel relies on steady hand weeding, careful mulching, and organic fertiliser from the family’s animals to keep his five hundred trees productive. Cherries are delivered to Nkara, one of Rwanda’s smallest washing stations, where precise sorting and gentle drying preserve the nuance of his harvest. The cup is bright and structured, showing candied lemon and apricot jam with a soft fig sweetness, a reflection of thoughtful farming on a remarkably small scale.
