A Fork in the Road

A note from our founders.

We're at a fork in the road. When we started Slide back in 2018, our mission was simple: do things better.

Better for coffee farmers. Better for coffee drinkers. Better for an industry whose lifeblood is the hardworking hands of growers around the world.

For the last seven years we’ve chased that mission. At times, it’s felt like we were bootstrapping - navigating through economic turmoil, a global pandemic, and the daily grind of keeping a small business alive. In years of many lessons learned, one truth stands out:

If we want to keep roasting coffee we’re proud of, and sourcing it with respect, we have to price it honestly.

So here’s the fork in the road:
  1. Compromise our values — buy cheaper beans, cheaper packaging that hurts the environment, and join the race to the bottom with big corporations who exploit the farmers that grow our coffee.

  2. Or, stay the course — keep our mission intact, source and roast coffee we’re proud of, and build a business that treats everyone in the chain with respect.
We’re choosing the second path.
That said, a small price increase is the only way to keep compensating producers fairly, sourcing quality beans, and keeping Slide Coffee alive in a way that honours our values.
The truth is: your support makes that possible. Every time you buy Slide’s coffee, you’re helping us to shape an industry built on respect - not exploitation.
Thank you for believing in us, and for trusting us as your coffee roasters.
