Our first year featuring a naturally processed coffee from Guatemala, and an exciting start to a new relationship. With around 98% of the country’s coffee traditionally washed, natural lots like this remain relatively uncommon. The result is a different expression of an origin we know and love, bringing a little more fruit, sweetness and body while retaining the clarity we look for in Guatemalan coffee.

La Merced has been part of the Alburez-Ortega family since 1832, with coffee first planted on the farm in 1912. Set among the forested hills of Acatenango, Guatemala, the farm is now managed across several generations of the family. This lot is 100% Bourbon and naturally processed, making the most of the region’s warm, dry harvest season. La Merced’s history extends well beyond coffee. The family once produced dairy, kept beehives and planted orange trees across the property. They also established the first school in the area, with a focus on providing education for girls from the surrounding community.
