We first cupped Muhathi last year at MCM’s Let’s Cup: Kenya, where roasters from across the country come together to share the Kenyan lots they’ve sourced through MCM. We loved this coffee and knew we wanted to secure some the following harvest. Even booking ahead, we could only get our hands on two boxes, so this one is filter only. Refined, vibrant and incredibly elegant, it’s easily one of the best Kenyans we’ve had at Slide.

Muhathi Estate has been in the same family for generations, with its story tracing back to the land reforms that followed Kenya's Mau Mau uprising in the 1950s. The farm's first coffee trees were planted by Peris Wambui Karugondo's grandparents, helping establish a legacy that continues today. After spending 22 years working as a nurse in the United Kingdom, Peris returned home to care for her mother and eventually inherited the parcel now known as Muhathi. She runs the farm alongside her son, Sam, combining decades of family knowledge with a commitment to preserving the land for future generations. The result is a coffee that reflects both history and home.
