How to Brew with an AeroPress
The AeroPress is a quick, reliable way to make clean, balanced coffee at home. Use the steps below as a starting point, then adjust the recipe to suit your taste.

Coffee: Filter Roast or Espresso Roast
Dose: 16 g
Water: 250 ml
Grind: Medium-fine
Brew Time: 2:30
Step 1: Grind the coffee
Grind on a medium-fine setting. This should be slightly finer than a typical filter grind, but coarser than espresso.
On a scale of 1 to 10, aim for around 4 or 5, with 1 being the finest and 10 the coarsest.
Every grinder behaves differently, so small adjustments may be needed.
Step 2: Prepare the filter and add coffee
Place a paper filter in the AeroPress cap and rinse it with hot water. This removes any paper taste and warms your mug.
Set the AeroPress on top of a sturdy mug, then add the ground coffee to the brew chamber.
Step 3: Add water
Start your timer.
Pour hot water at around 95°C until the chamber is roughly one-third full. Stir quickly to ensure all the coffee is saturated.
Wait 30 seconds, then fill the chamber to the top with the remaining water.
Insert the plunger slightly into the chamber to create a seal, but do not press yet.
Step 4: Press
At 2:10, begin pressing slowly and steadily.
Support the mug if needed. The press should finish around 2:30.
Step 5: Taste and adjust
Drink it black, or add a little milk if you used the stronger espresso roast option.
To adjust the flavour:
-
Finer grind for a sweeter, fuller cup
-
Coarser grind for a lighter, brighter result
Use the guide as a base and adjust until it suits your taste.
